7 things we learned from Hull 0 Luton 2

Luton picked up after the international break where they left off before it with a comfortable 2-0 win at the happy hunting ground of the MKM Stadium. Here are our takeaways from the encounter.

Lansbury launches Town up to fifth in the table

The win for the Hatters means they end the night in fifth place in the table. It was a perfect away performance which was capped off in brilliant style by midfielder Henri Lansbury.

Lansbury was having an excellent game at the heart of the midfield but his evening became a special one shortly before half time when a Jordan Clark shot was saved and cleared to the classy operator 30 yards from goal.

Fittingly for a lawn enthusiast, Lansbury rifled home a daisy cutter on the half volley for his first goal in a Luton shirt, a finish that was so sexy it should not have been shown before the watershed. The goal was great but the celebration that followed was just as good. Hopefully, it is the first of many for the fans’ favourite.

The luck continues to elude Elijah

While it was a perfect night for the Hatters, one thing which would have made it better would have been a goal for last season’s top marksman Elijah Adebayo. The striker couldn’t have gone any closer as Luton took the lead as he got on the end of a corner routine straight from the training ground and thumped a shot which hit the bar. Fortunately the rebound hit a Hull defender and bounced in but for Adebayo and Luton overall it would have been so much sweeter if the goal had gone to Luton’s number 11.

Campbell contributes to a win on his 50th appearance

The night was a milestone one for the relentless Town midfielder Allan Campbell as he brought up 50 appearances in a Luton shirt with a performance reminiscent of the 49 which went before it, getting around the pitch snapping at ankles and breaking up play at every opportunity.

He won the ball high up at times and delivered another full energy display like he spoke about on the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust podcast this week. Here’s to the next 50 appearances and a lot more besides, Wee Al.

Big ups to Bell for solid performance

Nathan Jones was far from happy with the fact that defender Amari’i Bell had to travel to New York and back on international duty this week but you wouldn’t have known he had done that on this evidence.

Less than 72 hours after tussling with Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi, the Jamaica international was almost foot perfect down the left side for the Town. Bell had a couple of indifferent games by his standards a month or so ago but he looks back to his best again now.

Pelly return adds further depth to the Luton squad

It was pleasing to see the name of Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu among the substitutes and even better still to see him come on for the last 15 minutes when he replaced hero on the night Lansbury. We won’t judge the midfielder on a 15 minute cameo, instead we’ll just enjoy the fact a huge member of the Town squad is back for a busy run of games to come.

Light show a no go

Those who were fortunate, or unfortunate depending on your point of view, to be in the ground before kick off would have been treated to, or rather endured, a light show the sort of which belongs nowhere near football. For about a five minute period the lights flashed on and off accompanied by flame balls ascending into the night air. Thankfully when the game started the only thing on fire was the Town performance. Light shows at football? To coin a commentary phrase – not for me, Clive.

Friday night is 80s bangers night!

Last season a number of bangers from the 1980s were reinvented for various Luton players. The Eurythmics ‘Sweet dreams’ chant for James Bree rung around the MKM on a number of occasions and more came out in the second half when Wham’s ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’ chorus was reworded to include the ditty, “Wake me up before you go go, who needs Naismith when you’ve got Gabe Osho!” lyrical genius. Eat your heart out Andrew Ridgeley!

  1. Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
