Luton singer-songwriter Myles Smith UK has thanked fans after his debut album officially became the biggest-selling debut release of 2026 so far, going straight into the UK charts at number 2 just days after returning home for a widely acclaimed town-wide takeover.
The former Lealands High School student today saw ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ enter the official UK albums chart at number two, marking his first Top 10 record and a major milestone in his career to date, while also topping the official vinyl albums chart and official record store chart.
Reflecting on the achievement, Smith said the success was one he would never forget.
“This week has been one I’ll carry with me forever,” he wrote on social media.
“To everyone who gave ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ a place in their life and helped us debut at Number 2 in the UK… thank you. I don’t think I’ll ever have the words for what that means.
“Also the biggest debut album of 2026, that’s pretty neat”.
Glyn Aikins, co-president of Smith’s record label, RCA, said: “To achieve the biggest debut album of the year is a remarkable milestone and testament to Myles’ talent, work ethic and connection with fans.
“He represents a new generation of global British artists, combining exceptional songwriting with an ability to tell stories that resonate across borders. Everyone at RCA is incredibly proud to be part of this journey. This success is richly deserved and feels like the start of something even bigger.’
The chart success follows an emotional return to Luton last week, when Smith transformed parts of his hometown into a celebration of the album before embarking on the next chapter of his career.

Fans saw Luton railway station temporarily renamed “Myles End”, New Town Street became “Myles Street” and Seymour Road’s Mr Chips was rebranded “Myles Fish & Chips”.
He also signed copies of the album at HMV, played a free concert in St George’s Square and finished the celebrations with an appearance at the Sugar Loaf pub in New Town, one of the locations featured in the promotional video announcing the album.
During the homecoming concert, Smith thanked fans for supporting him from his childhood in Leagrave to sold-out arenas around the world.
“I’m so happy to be home with you guys,” he told the crowd. “You’ve given me the opportunity to tour the world three times and I’m about to do it again. Before I left I wanted to come and say ‘hi’ to you.”
That world tour is now just days away and although Smith described the chart success as special, he believes the live shows will be even more meaningful.
“As special as this week has been… I honestly think the best part is still to come,” he wrote.
“In 7 days, we start the ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ world tour.
“These songs were never meant to live behind a screen. They were written to be shouted, cried, laughed and celebrated together in a room full of people who understand them. If this album has meant anything to you, I promise these shows are where it all comes to life.”
Smith today confirmed that American singer-songwriter Chance Peña will support him throughout his UK arena dates this year.
Earlier this week, as a final push to promote the album, Smith also unveiled his directorial debut for a short film named after his album track ‘Hold Me In The Dark’, starring acclaimed actor Stephen Graham, which he dedicated to the staff and children of Luton & Dunstable University Hospital.
Smith’s chart success adds another milestone to an extraordinary rise for the Luton musician.
The 28-year-old has amassed more than 4.7 billion streams worldwide, won the BRIT Rising Star Award, collected an Ivor Novello Award and sold out London’s O2 Arena, where he’ll enjoy another triumphant homecoming in November after travelling the world.
While ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ was kept off the top spot by Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love,’ its number two debut still represents Smith’s highest-ever album chart position and the biggest opening week for a debut album released in 2026.
For an artist who has repeatedly credited Luton for shaping both his life and his music, it is another landmark achievement in a journey that continues to take him and his hometown onto the global stage.
