Luton Town midfielder Thelo Aasgaard has received a second call-up to the Norway national team, just two weeks after national boss Ståle Solbakken suggested his international prospects could be hindered by playing in League One.
Aasgaard, 23, joined the Hatters from Wigan Athletic in January and made an immediate impact, scoring on his senior international debut in a 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova in March.
However, following Luton’s relegation to League One at the end of the season, Solbakken told Norwegian outlet Nettavisen: “It goes without saying that it is difficult to play for the national team if you play in League One. He knows this”.
Despite this, Aasgaard’s performances have earned him another opportunity to represent his country and his continued inclusion in the Norway squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Estonia suggests that, despite Luton’s situation, his talent and work ethic are, for now, recognised at the highest level.
