Ali Al-Hamadi has revealed he will be sidelined for “a few months” after suffering a significant setback during international duty, with the forward admitting the latest blow has halted the rhythm he was finally beginning to rediscover at Luton.
The striker posted an update on social media, revealing he will now enter another prolonged spell of rehabilitation after what had already been a disrupted season.
Al-Hamadi joined Luton on loan from Ipswich on transfer deadline day, with the Hatters signing him knowing he had a calf injury. He finally made his debut last month in a cameo off the bench during Town’s 4-3 win over Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup.
He was called up by Iraq to play in their World Cup qualifying clash against the UAE and he scored but was withdrawn with a injury at half-time.
The Hatters were waiting on news about the issue with his quad and the forward has explained the the diagnosis is not a good one.
“That’s me for a few months again as I deal with this injury set-back,” Al-Hamadi wrote. “I was really enjoying being out there doing what I love again. Just getting my flow back. Back to the chopping board… It’s not been the season I envisioned so far, but football isn’t fair sometimes.
“The body, mind and spirit are giving me deep feedback that I need to respect and listen to. The raw emotions have left the system and I’m ready to attack the healing process again. I WILL BE BACK INSHALLAH. Al-hamdulilah always.”
The news is a further blow for Luton boss Jack Wilshere, as forward Nahki Wells is now out injured, and with Lasse Nordås and Joe Gbode not featuring in recent Town squads, it leaves Jerry Yates as the manager’s primary striker, though he scored the winner and his first home league goal for the Hatters in last night’s 2-1 triumph over Huddersfield.
