Andros Townsend scored as a youthful Luton XI lost 3-1 at Port Vale last night amid links with a move to Turkish Super Lig side Alanyaspor.

The 33-year-old was one of three senior Hatters that started in the side for the pre-season friendly alongside Cauley Woodrow and Joe Taylor.

Townsend, wearing the captain’s armband, scored a stunning free-kick early on, but Vale came back with three goals from Ronan Curtis, Connor Hall and Ruari Paton.

Ahead of his appearance for Alex Lawless and Kevin Foley’s young Hatters in the Potteries, journalist Reşat Can Özbudak with Turkish media outlet Sports Digitale tweeted: “Alanyaspor started official negotiations to transfer Andros Townsend.”

The former England international played the final 23 minutes of Friday night’s 2-2 pre-season senior friendly at Dundee United.

Townsend was signed by Luton last summer to help add top-flight experience, having seen a deal with Burnley collapse at the 11th hour. He played 27 times for the Hatters in the Premier League, however, he was largely deployed as a substitute in the second half of the season.
