The University of Bedfordshire has climbed 19 places in the Guardian University Guide 2026, winning the top spot for a nursing course and national recognition for several others, with the vice chancellor saying the rise “reflects the quality of our teaching”.

The latest league table ranks the university 103rd in the UK overall and highlights a string of standout subject results. The university is first in the country for mental health nursing, fifth for education, and 19th for both criminology and paramedic science. Sport science also made the top 25.

Other subjects showed dramatic improvement. Accounting and finance jumped 65 places, computer and information systems rose 38 and criminology climbed 51, signalling a wider uplift in teaching and student satisfaction.

The Guardian success follows strong results in the National Student Survey 2025, where Bedfordshire was rated first in the East of England for learning opportunities and second for student voice. It also comes only weeks after the Daily Mail University Guide reported a similar rise, marking a double boost for the institution this year.

Vice chancellor Professor Rebecca Bunting said: “Seeing the University of Bedfordshire continue to rise across national league tables is a fantastic recognition of the dedication of our staff and the talent of our students. We are especially proud that students have rated us so highly for teaching and feedback – placing us 26th in the UK in both areas – as this reflects the quality of our teaching and the supportive learning environment we provide. These results, alongside our subject successes, highlight our commitment to helping every student thrive and succeed,” she said.
