Manager Matt Bloomfield has hailed Millenic Alli’s goalscoring attributes and potential impact at Luton after Town swooped to sign the forward from Exeter City for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a prolific season, netting 12 goals across all competitions, including seven in his last eight League One matches, and reports today claimed that a £1.5million bid was enough to tempt him away from St James’ Park after just one year with the Grecians.

Before that the Irish forward has made a steady climb through the football pyramid, starting in Bury’s youth system before establishing himself in non-league football with clubs including South Shields, Workington, Ashton United, and FC Halifax Town, where he won the FA Trophy in 2023.

Alli joins Luton to strengthen their forward line at a time when they’ve drawn a blank in their last three home games and have reportedly submitted a fourth transfer bid of £7million for Wycombe striker Richard Kone after three rejections.

Like the Chairboys hitman, who Bloomfield was managing earlier this month, Alli has also been impressing in League One.

“Milli is a player who we have come up against a few times and he’s always impressed with his pace, power and individual dribbling ability to get his team up the pitch,” said Bloomfield who has previously managed against the forward while at Wycombe Wanderers.

“If you look at the goals he has scored – even Tuesday evening, two headers, one at the back post – he’s a brave boy, and with his non-league background, he has a real hunger to prove himself at the levels above.”

The Luton boss believes that Alli possesses the physical attributes required to excel in the Championship and is confident that further development on the training ground will cement the forward’s status as a key player for the club.

“Physically, he’s got the capabilities to step up and with some work on the training ground with us, and that desire and pace at the top of the pitch, we believe that he can be a good asset for us both now and developing further into the future,” Bloomfield told the club’s website.

“Milli is a signing we are really pleased to get over the line, and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
