Sonny Bradley has admitted he wanted to respond to the social media rumours of a Luton exit, but he resisted the temptation and is just happy to have his Hatters future sorted.
A new deal was confirmed for club captain last week, putting to bed persistent speculation of his departure, with League One Ipswich heavily linked to the defender.
Preston North End and his home town club of Hull had also been reported as destinations, with his three-year deal at Kenilworth Road coming to a close.
But Bradley penned a new contract and then revealed on Friday how even he’d been scouring social media for news of where he was heading, despite having a new contract agreed with Town.
Now the 29-year-old has explained further about his reaction to seeing his future incorrectly discussed online.
“Obviously it is a little bit strange and, at times, I just wanted to go on there and write something, put people straight,” Bradley said.
“I just let it go. If you are out of contract, obviously you are a free agent so there are going to be rumours flying about. It is a little bit disappointing to see some verified people putting up those rumours but it is what it is, I understand it.
“I was logging in to find out information about myself, about what was happening at times which was quite funny!
“I had an agreement with the manager that I was signing a new deal and it was then out of my hands but now we’re obviously in a place now where the deal is done and everyone is happy.”
Having joined Luton from Plymouth and helped the Hatters to the League One title in his first season, to now seeing them established as a Championship club, asked if the new deal shows Town are close to his heart, Bradley said: “I can definitely say that, that’s the way I feel.
“Three years and we’ve had success, promotion from League One, two good campaigns in the Championship and for me, this is the best level I’ve played at, the best football team I’ve been a part of and on the pitch everything seems to be moving in the right direction.
“But it’s not just on the pitch, it’s off the pitch as well, I’ve built up some really good relationships off the pitch. I love the place that I live, and my family have always been made welcome at the football club and that’s a big thing for a player, and I think it gets overlooked at times.
“If you feel comfortable, if your family feel welcome, it can have an impact on how you’re playing, Luton for me are first-class when it comes to looking after the families, because I think they understand how important that is to a player.
“So, I’ve certainly got that connection with Luton now and I want to make that even stronger moving forward.”
