New Luton signing Jordan Clark said the homework that boss Nathan Jones did on him impressed him so much he pestered his agent until the deal was done.
The 26-year-old joined as a free agent last week after his contract at League One Accrington Stanley expired.
The versatile attacking midfielder was a key part in the Lancashire side’s run to the League Two title, pipping Town.
Asked about his first encounter with Jones, the former Barnsley player said: “The way I met him, I was like, ‘wow’, he blew me away with his ideas, how much information he had on me and what he wants from me and I just couldn’t believe it.
“I probably did my agents head in saying, ‘come on, what’s happening, get it done, is it not done yet.’
“I was just patient and when I got the chance to come down here, I couldn’t get down the M1 quick enough, it was unbelievable.”
Once in Luton, Clark added of his new manager: “I had the chance to meet him before I signed and loved everything he said, just like myself, (he’s) so ambitious, wants to do well, wants to kick on and have a great season.
“And on the training pitch, he’s very demanding which is great, he’s a top coach which will improve every single player here. Team spirit is good, there’s a good togetherness with all the lads which is massive, and all the staff as well.
“It’s looking really positive and can’t wait for the games to start, even just looking forward to tomorrow really, getting fit and just enjoying training again.”
Asked if he’d spoken to Jones about the positions he’d like him to play, Clark said: “A little bit. Not too much because it’s only day two, so he’s sort of drip-feeding it in a little bit. We’re working on different formations and things, but I think it’s just about getting fit.
“I’m learning a couple of positions, which I think is one of my strengths. I’m quite flexible and can play different positions, which suits the way he plays as well. It was a good fit for that.”
