Luton Town have signed midfielder Henri Lansbury on a free from Bristol City, with manager Nathan Jones saying the former Arsenal man will add the experience and ‘know-how’ that the Hatters require.
The 30-year-old came through the ranks with the Gunners before moving to Nottingham Forest in 2012, playing 145 times alongside Town’s first-team coach Chris Cohen.
Lansbury the switched to Aston Villa helping them gain promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs before moving to Bristol City on a free.
Jones told the club’s website: “Chris played with Henri at Forest, so of course he comes very well recommended.
“But what we felt is that we’ve lost a lot of experience this summer, and with the youth and energy and all the qualities that we are bringing in, we felt that we needed two things: that real know-how at the level, but also that real top-end quality, and we believe Henri gives that.
“He’s a fantastic midfield player, has had a wonderful career, been promoted from the division more than once, has played for some massive clubs and has real good pedigree.
“An opportunity arose for us to meet him, we did and he really wanted to buy into everything. He’s still got that hunger, he’s a real good age and an age that we haven’t really got much of. And with all the other signings being young players, we felt that we needed that balance by bringing Henri in.
“He was instrumental in Bristol City’s first half performance against us recently, when we were 2-0 down at half-time and managed to turn it around.
“We want his quality, and we know he is going to bring that. But because we’ve got a relatively young midfield and have just signed another in Allan Campbell, it’s a real good signing because it gives us that balance in that midfield area.”

Maybe it’s time to stop trying to make any sense of NJ’s strategy re new signings – or NJ’s strategy re anything for that matter. I expect Joe Morrell will be the next one out the door – unless, of course, NJ decides he needs him as a part of a ground-breaking 0-10-0!
2 Graeme Jones signings today. Not just uninspiring to take journeymen but dissatisfying to know our hard earned is being spent this way (even if it’s only wages). We have a wise old striker in Hylton. And we’ve plenty of midfielders (unless Jones wants to play 2-8-0).
If we lose Pelly too then despite the 3 good signings, we will not have as good a squad as last season. Doesn’t mean we won’t still get mid table though.
GJ was short-sighted about a lot of things – including Danny Hylton. The lad deserves better from NJ.
