Luton defender Matty Pearson will join Championship rivals Huddersfield Town on a three-year deal at the end of next month, bringing an end to three successful years as a Hatter.
The centre half follows James Collins out the Kenilworth Road door, after the striker signed for Cardiff City yesterday. And with unconfirmed reports of an exit for skipper Sonny Bradley, more are expected to leave this summer.
Pearson signed for Luton in 2018 from Barnsley and helped the Hatters to the League One title, earning cult status along the way, with the “Matty Pearson’s magic…” song. The 27-year-old scored on his home debut against Sunderland and managed 87 consecutive starts.
After helping Luton to a top half of the table Championship finish last term, Pearson returns to Yorkshire after 136 appearances and 10 goals.
good luck to Matty and Collo. And thanks for all they’ve done. for Matty I hope he enjoys being nearer Keighley.
it does feel a little strange that we’ve evolved from a league one club selling excellent players to premier league clubs for a lot of money, to being a championship club losing a lower quality of player (than JJ and Jack) for free to average and medicore championship sides. i wouldn’t bet against a few more heading off too. but i guess we have to trust the process.
I guess we do. But they – like Sonny – have done us proud at a critical time.
It’s a different world. The days of Bob and Gordon are long gone!
