Harry Cornick says it’s important for Luton to build on their first win of the Championship campaign and go on a run.
The forward scored the third in a rampant half hour blitz by Town at Barnsley, which earned a first league victory at the fifth time of asking since winning the League One title on the final day of last term.
The Hatters took four games of the previous season to secure three points for the first time and after a 3-2 reverse at Oakwell in October, they went on a six-month, 28-games unbeaten streak.
Few will be expecting a repeat of the record-breaking run, and Cornick said: “If we take it from last year, I’d be delighted for the same season again. We’ll take that this year, but it’s great to get the points on the board, because we’ve played well in the previous games but haven’t got the results to match for it. To put two and two together, the three points look good on the table.
“It’s massive for us to go on a little run now. We did it last year. We started off sluggish but as soon as we got that first win then the confidence was there. The confidence is there now and we can go into Saturday against Huddersfield at home.”
Luton have a Carabao Cup second round clash at Cardiff on Tuesday before then, but boss Graeme Jones made 11 changes for their last knock-out tie, against Ipswich.
Focusing on the Championship, Cornick, who has scored in successive games, said: “It’s a tough league but I don’t think we can give any teams respect. We’ve just got to take it game by game and we can’t look into the future too much, but Saturday against Huddersfield, we’ve got to go into that thinking we can beat them at home.
“I don’t think there’s anything to be feared. We can’t fear a league or give too much respect to teams because there’s some quality in this league and they’re going to punish you. We need to go into every game thinking we’ve got enough and we deserve to be here from last year. So, we need to go in there with no respect for opponents and put them to the sword.”
