Coventry in ‘false position’ but Luton desperate for first home win, says Jones

Nathan Jones says Coventry won’t get stuck in the Championship drop zone and that they’ll be desperate for their first win of the season tonight – but his Hatters have the same home motivation on home soil.

The Sky Blues are playing catch-up with the rest of the league after postponements to early matches due to the poor quality of their pitch.

But four defeats and one draw to start their season has left them bottom of the table as they travel to Kenilworth Road tonight.

Town thrashed City 5-0 this time last term, but have been struggling for results at home, with just two points from four games.

“We’re desperate to get our first three points at home, so it’s two desperate teams, they won’t be any more dangerous than we are,” said Jones.

“They want to get points and we want to get points, so it’s going to be a scrap and a fight to get those three points, they don’t want them anymore than we do, so that’s what it comes down to.”

Luton have played three more games than Coventry and have eight more points, but Jones believes City’s current status as basement boys is only temporary.

He said: “They’re in a false position, they’ll be in a better position come months down the line, so I wouldn’t be worried if I was a Coventry fan

“It’s a really tough game, they play with real energy, it’s always a tough game against Coventry.

“Mark’s done a fantastic job there, as we know, (it’s) pretty similar to our journey, albeit from a different starting point, but it’s a real, real tough game and we’ve seen that with Championship games.

“Every game is tough, every game is different and a new challenge and we have to make sure we’re ready for it, but we’ll concentrate on us, we have to be the best version of us, and if we’re the best version of us, that’s all we can ask for.

“They’ve got a very good squad. You look at their midfield and there’s energy and a real good side. They’re a very dangerous side to play against.

“They’re in a false position. What we’ve got to make sure is they’re still in a false position (tonight).”
