Former Luton defender Dan Potts has joined the ex-Hatters club at Charlton Athletic after leaving Kenilworth Road in the summer.
The centre half spent time with Charlton in pre-season and today he signed a short-term deal until January 2025 which willl see him link up with his former Luton boss Nathan Jones, plus midfielders Luke Berry, Allan Campbell – with the Scot moving on a season-long loan last month – and defender Lloyd Jones.
The 30-year-old spent nine years with Town, winning three promotions as the club went from League Two to the Premier League, making 216 appearances for the club.
Potts’ last game for Luton was the 2023 Championship play-off final where he took over the captain’s armband after Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch with an atrial fibrillation of his heart. He scored in the penalty shootout victory over Coventry but injury then prevented him from playing in the top flight last term.
Speaking to the Addicks’ website, boss Jones said: “Dan is someone that has played for me before, has been promoted and knows what it takes every day to be at it to create this winning culture and winning environment.
“What we’ve done is try to create the environment and the collective to make us as strong as possible. To do that we need competition in every position and we need people that are going to drive the environment, people that know what it takes to win at all costs. Pottsy knows that and I’m delighted to have him.
“We know that he’ll add real value – one to the environment and two to the culture and also the squad. Then when he plays he’ll add real competition and something different to what we’ve got.”
