Luton could be without defender Teden Mengi for their relegation six-pointer with basement club Sheffield United and Town will a chance to make Premier League history.
The centre half missed the 4-0 home win over Brighton but returned for last weekend’s 4-4 thriller at Newcastle and is now a doubt again.
Fellow defender Mads Andersen is still out and manager Rob Edwards said: “Mads isn’t OK. Teden’s got a slight knock to his ankle, he felt that in training yesterday. Other than that, it’s as we were.”
Town will be looking to do the double of the Blades after a two-own goal comeback saw them to victory at Bramall Lane on Boxing Day.
And if they score four for a third consecutive game they will become the first newly-promoted Premier League team ever to do it.
“It would be great if we did that,” said Edwards adding: “The aim is to try and win the game and we’ll do that any way we can.
“It’s nice that we’ve scored a few goals of late. It’s difficult to do that in the league. We want to celebrate that and we want to enjoy it, but we’re going into this game expecting a really difficult game, a really difficult battle.
“Both teams are fighting for their lives and we’re expecting it to be tight.”
Edwards is yet to lose to Sheffield United with two wins and a draw for Luton with the last triumph won of five victories in their last nine games in all competitions, which has helped lift the Hatters just out of the relegation zone with double (20) the points of the Blades.
“I think we earned it. We did well. It was a strange way to score a couple of goals, but we’ve had quite a few thrilling games.
“I’d like to think that we’ve been good to watch. Like I’ve said before, we are in an entertainment business, though we all want to win.
“We want to compete, and we’ve been doing that well. I hope it’s a good game to watch, especially for our fans tomorrow, who have been amazing.
“We look forward to it, but we want to keep our performance levels high.”
Town go into this game as slight favourites, with just one defeat in six Premier League games, and unbeatn this calendar year, while the Blades have lost six of their last nine and three on the spin ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“We’ve got to be able to deal with that,” and that’s understand, I suppose, at the moment” said Edwards of the rare favourites tag they’ll have against United.
“I wouldn’t say we’re big favourites. There’s not loads separating the two teams at the moment, but we’re going into it good form and we’re confident, recognising that it’s a really big game ahead.
“There’s now game that’s easy in the Premier League and if we step off it at all we’ll get punished.
“Like I keep saying, it’s foot down to the floor and making sure we’re doing all the right things that we’re doing better, especially over these last few months.
“That will give us a platform and hopefully an opportunity, a chance to win the game. But, if we don’t, if we step off, we’ll get punished.”
Sheffield United are still to reach the lowest Premier League points haul of Derby (11) and will have to set a new record themselves if they are to avoid the drop, as no team with less that 15 points after 20 games of the Premier League season has remained a top-flight team.
But asked if it’s a must-win for his men, Hatters boss Edwards said: “We want to win, we know it’s a really big game but they all are. It will be over before we know it now. You get to this stage, in February, and everything just speeds up.
“So, we recognise how important every game is. This is the one that’s ahead of us next, Sheffield United. Two teams that are obviously trying to avoid relegation and stay in the league, so it’s a big one.
“We don’t go into any game saying, ‘now, at the moment, it’s a must-win’, because they’re not for us. It may get to that stage further down the line and if it is, then it is.
“I recognise, and we all do, how big a game it is, but that’s just because it’s the next game in the Premier League.”
