Donervon Daniels says he feels ‘blessed’ to have been given the opportunity to play in Championship and wants to help Luton of the relegation mire.
The 26-year-old signed for the Hatters on transfer deadline day in the summer, but was immediately loaned to Doncaster Rovers, where he made 13 appearances.
Daniels was given notice on Friday that he was being recalled and would make his Town debut at right back in Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup third round exit at Bournemouth, impressing despite the scoreline.
The defender was formerly at Blackpool in the 2014/15 season when he made 19 Championship appearances and then again when he moved to Wigan and they got promoted from League One in 2016.
However, his season was cut short after just one Championship appearances and he was released in 2018, returning to Blackpool, who were then in League One.
Daniels said: “I feel like I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to come back and play at the level that I want to play at. I want to help the boys. I don’t feel like I’m here to take someone’s job. I want to be on the pitch and contribute. That’s just the nature of the game.
“I feel like I’m good enough to play at this level and help the team. I’m really happy to be here and happy to help the boys. I’ve come here to try and give my all, compete and obviously help push us up the table.”
Town have found life back in the Championship difficult and they currently sit bottom of the table, four points adrift with the worst goal difference in the division.
Daniels said: “The step up through each league is difficult. I’ve played in the Championship before, so I have an understanding of the quality.
“This league is a little bit more clinical that League One, the Premier League is a little bit more clinical that the Championship and, once you have that mindset, you try to eradicate mistakes and be as concentrated as you can throughout the entirety of the game and we’ve all got to do that.”
