Rob Edwards has revealed that a move for Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden fell through because Luton couldn’t agree a deal with the midfielder, while giving a definitive answer on speculation surrounding Arsenal’s Rob Holding.

It had been reported that the 28-year-old was due to have a medical with the Hatters ahead of tonight’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Gillingham. But prior to the kick-off it was reported that the move was off with the player having failed those tests.

Asked what happened, Edwards said: “We couldn’t quite agree a deal, unfortunately. He’s someone we had a look at but couldn’t quite agree a deal.

“Clearly, there was interest. He’s a good player but unfortunately we couldn’t quite agree a deal.

“We can have a look and see what else we can do in the next couple of days.”

However, Edwards confirmed that there was no truth to the rumours around a move for Arsenal centre back Holding.

The manager said: “I’ve seen the speculation but there’s no truth in that.”
