Rob Edwards has promised further business in the transfer market as Luton move into the final week of the Premier League preparations after a 0-0 in a friendly draw at top flight rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Town have brought in six new players this summer, with three of them – Mads Andersen, Tahith Chong and Ryan Giles – reported to have broken the club’s transfer record.
The Hatters have also been in the hunt for a goalkeeper and after interest in Asmir Begovic, who opted for QPR, Manchester United’s Tom Heaton and West Bromwich Albion’s Alex Palmer, The Athletic has reported that the club have agreed a £2.5million fee to sign Blackburn Rovers stopper Thomas Kaminski.
Luton have also been linked with a move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is now a free agent after his release from Arsenal, where he came up through the academy ranks to 132 times for the Gunners.
Fellow newly promoted side Sheffield United are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old utility player.
Speaking after the goalless draw at his former club Wolves, Town boss Edwards assessed the club’s summer transfer business so far, where he’s also added Rotherham’s Chiedozie Ogbene, Marvelous Nakamba on a permanent deal from Aston Villa and Issa Kabore on loan from Manchester City.
“I’ve been really pleased,” he told the club’s website. I think we’ve done and are doing some really good business in the market. The recruitment has been excellent and I’m really pleased with the lads we’ve got in so far.
“There’s more to come, which is great and that core of the group that was with us last year has been great. Everyone’s stepping up well.
“Everyone’s fit, everyone’s got enthusiasm and everyone’s energised and ready for it, so it’s been a really good four weeks so far.
“There’s a few more days to go and it will be great to go out to Bochum now and play a few games out there, and then we’re into that final week of preparation, so it’s really exciting.”
Town travel to Germany this week for a double-header friendly on Saturday to round off their preparations ahead of their first-ever Premier League game, away to Brighton and Hove Albion.
