The Football Association will reportedly launch an investigation into Nottingham Forest for an explosive online rant, claiming that the “VAR is a Luton fan” after they were denied three penalties in a 2-0 defeat at Everton.

Stuart Attwell was appointed the Video Assistant Referee in charge of adjudicating on any contentious issues in the clash between the Premier League relegation rivals. But three times referee Anthony Taylor waved away claims, all involving alleged infringements by Ashley Young, without the intervention of VAR.

The defeat leaves Forest just one point above 18th placed Luton with four games left to play this season.

Unhappy at their treatment, immediately after the final whistle at Goodison Park, Forest posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) social media site:

“Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

An FA investigation will focus on the statement for calling into question the integrity of the game.
