Luton will see all 20 of its wards lit up with new community Christmas trees over the coming weeks as the council launches a town-wide festive programme aimed at bringing neighbours together.
Funded through the National Lottery Community Fund, the Fairness Taskforce and ward councillors, the scheme is intended to spread Christmas cheer into every corner of the borough.
The council says the arrival of the trees marks a renewed push to support community spirit at a time when many households are feeling the strain. Each ward will host its own switch on event, offering residents a moment to gather, celebrate and connect.
Councillor Hazel Simmons MBE, leader of Luton Council, said: “We are thrilled to bring festive sparkle to all 20 wards in Luton this year. At a time when community matters more than ever, we hope these trees help bring people together, create joy and strengthen the spirit that makes Luton such a special place.”
Jerry Pert, operations director for VolkerHighways, the council’s highways contractor, said: “We are pleased to support this initiative by delivering and installing the community Christmas trees across the town. It’s a privilege to help bring this festive project to life and we look forward to seeing the trees brighten neighbourhoods throughout Luton.”
Switch on events begin on Tuesday 25 November and run until 11 December.
