Luton Town have announced the release of five players while discussions continue over extensions to the loan deals for Luke Bolton, James Bree, Izzy Brown and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The deadline for a decision with that foursome is Friday, but goalkeeper Marek Stech, defenders Frankie Musonda, Donervon Daniels and Lloyd Jones, and forward Jake Jervis will depart when their contracts end tomorrow.

A statement from the club, said: “Everyone at Kenilworth Road would like to wish those seven players every success in their future career. They have all played a part in the club’s progression, whether they have been here for a single season, or for 14 years like Frankie – who we are proud to call ‘one of our own’.”

Speaking today, manager Nathan Jones, said: “It’s always tough to tell people that they’re not going to get contracts, but what we’ve had to do is make sure that we make decisions now, looking ahead.

“Those were ones we were able to make and were categorical. We won’t be able to take them forward. We’ve spoken to everyone individually, no problem with anyone. We wish them all the best because they’ve been good servants for however long they’ve been here.

“Some, like Jake and Lloyd have had limited exposure. I explained to Jake Jervis that we brought him in to play, then the level that others were attaining meant that he didn’t have the game time.

“But he provided that competition. People might think he was a waste, but he wasn’t because by having him in the building, he provided that competition that James Collins, Danny Hylton, Isaac Vassell, Elliot Lee and all those players went through the roof. Jack Marriott, at the time, was still here and they all went through the roof. It was just unfortunate and that’s happened to the football club.

“It’s wrong to call them casualties, but they will go on, I’m sure, to have productive careers and we wish them all the well.”

There are also contracts expiring tomorrow for Luke Berry, Jacob Butterfield, Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee, Callum McManaman and Glen Rea, but those players will remain with the Hatters until the end of the extended season.

Also leaving Luton are second-year scholars Josh Boorn (midfielder) and Jonas Kalonda (forward) after serving their apprenticeship.

Academy defender Avan Jones has accepted a first professional contract and will continue his development in the Under-23 set-up alongside fellow young pros Jake Peck, Corey Panter, Josh Neufville, Sam Beckwith and Tiernan Parker, who will all remain at the club.

Seven of Town’s Under-16 squad have been offered scholarships with the academy – Josh Allen, Eddie Corbitt, Aidan Francis, Ed McJannet, Tyrelle Newton, Josh Swan and Adam Wedd.
