Luton Town have confirmed the departure of three senior off-field staff members as they start to adjust to life in League One, including a long-serving club secretary, who has joined Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Hatters were relegated to League One on the last day of the Championship season after a 5-3 thumping at West Bromwich Albion and, earlier this week, a statement from club chairman David Wilkinson promised to “review, regroup and rebuild”, though the departure of Chris Clark was first announced in Luton’s matchday programme notes ahead of last month’s 1-0 win over Coventry.

The secretary has been at Kenilworth Road since 2016 but has taken up a new role as head of player status and administration at Anfield.

Head of scouting operations Phil Chapple has also left his post. The former Charlton and Cambridge United defender joined the recruitment department in 2021 and brought with him experience from spells at Fulham, Brighton, Stoke, Norwich and Charlton.

Meanwhile, commercial director Chris Bell is also stepping down after more than five years at the club. He initially joined from rugby union side Wasps as head of commercial before being promoted to the executive team a year later.

Chief executive Gary Sweet told the club’s website: “On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank all three key members of staff for their valuable contributions over a number of years.

“All three have contributed significantly to our recent history, and we offer our heartfelt gratitude and wish each of them every success in their future roles.”
