Hull 0 Luton 2: Lawnmower man’s a ‘part-time groundsman, full-time whopper’ – Jones

Boss Nathan Jones joked about “crackpot” Henri Lansbury after the midfielder fired a rare stunner and matched it with a kooky grass-cutting celebration as Luton beat Hull 2-0.

It sealed Town’s first back-to-back victory of the season, both by the same scoreline, and it moved them up to fifth in the Championship to blow away concerns of a slow start to the season.

Alfie Jones’ own goal in the 6th minute set the Hatters on the path to a third straight away triumph. But the contest was lit up one minute before the break when Lansbury scored a stunner from 30 yards out, to break his Hatters duck.

The former Aston Villa ace’s last goal came on April 24, 2018, so he’s had plenty of time to craft a celebration that combines his other passion – lawn-mowing.

James Shea revealed last season that Lansbury, who goes by The Lawn Lad on Instagram, has his own part of Luton’s training ground that he likes to tend and take care of, as well as his own Grass Gains business.

“He’s got top end quality,” Hatters manager Jones said of the goalscorer’s strike.

“He has wonderful quality and he has a Grass Gains company that, to be fair, now I’ve give him a shout-out, I expect him to do my back garden.

“He’s a part-time footballer, part-time groundsman, full-time whopper.

“He’s got a business, but he enjoys it. When others play golf and other go to Starbucks, or whatever it is, he goes home and mows lawns. He loves it. He’s a crackpot anyway, so that’s just part and parcel of it.”

Lansbury and Carlton Morris were also interviewed by Sky Sports with the midfielder asked advice on the reporter’s patchy lawn.

And asked about Lansbury’s piece of grass at Town’s The Brache training ground, the striker said: “Honestly, it’s like bowls pitch. He knows his way around the garden, that’s for sure.”
