Danny Hylton says Luton players have already had a lift from Nathan Jones returning as manager and the striker is utterly convinced that the appointment is the best thing for the club.
The Welshman returned to the club on May 28, 16 months after leaving in controversial circumstances to join Stoke City.
Mick Harford too temporary charge and guided the Hatters to the League One title and then handed the reins over to Graeme Jones.
After Coronavirus struck, forcing the shutdown of football in England, the former Belgium number two was relieved of his duties and now his predecessor is back to try to guide Town away from the Championship relegation zone, in the final nine games of the season.
Hylton, who was signed by Jones in 2016, said: “A new manager gives you a lift because, although you don’t lose games or anything on purpose, when you’re stuck in that rut it’s hard to get out of.
“But when you get a new manager in results pick up, performances pick up and we’re fortunate enough to know this manager.
“He’s a manager that we like, and players have got relationships off the pitch as well, so he’s a manager you want to do well for. He’s a manager that gives us everything, so everyone wants to give him 100 per cent back.
It’s going to be a situation where, yeah (new) managers gives you a lift, but this one, certainly, I’m one million per cent sure that it’s the best thing for Luton Town, getting Nathan back because he knows us, we know him and we want to do well for him.”
Asked how he took the surprise news, a fortnight ago, that Jones had returned for a second spell in charge, Hylton said: “I was delighted. He was always a manager I got on really well with.
“On a professional side, football side, what he did for the club was fantastic, he was a great manager, we had some unbelievably successful times, and you go round the changing room and everyone will say the same, no-one will have a bad word to say about him and everyone’s delighted he’s back.
“I think the situation we find ourselves in, it makes complete sense and I’m delighted he’s back. He’s a manager we know, a style of play we know, so, we’re working on things and refreshing our memory on how he wants us to play, tactics and structure, but we know that and it’s in the back of our minds already, so it’s sharpening up and freshening up, but we’re delighted he’s back.”
