Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admits it was a “no-brainer” to sign for the Hatters on loan from Leicester after Lutonian James Justin gave him the lowdown on his hometown club.

The fullback moved to the former Premier League champions in a multi-million pound deal, the biggest fee Town have every recouped for a player, after he helped steer his boyhood club back to the Championship.

Luton boss Nathan Jones revealed earlier this month, that he’d asked Justin to put in a good word to midfield target Dewsbury-Hall, but that the defender told him he’d already done it.

The loan ace made his Hatters debut with an impressive performance in Saturday’s 1-0 Championship win at Sheffield Wednesday and talked afterwards of the advice the former Hatter had given him.

“He told me a lot of things about the club and he only had positive things to say,” said Dewsbury-Hall.

“He was at the club since he was a kid and he just said how well they’ve treated him and the style of play is really good for a player like me.

“The lads as well, the lads and the staff are really, really good, there is no big egos, everybody helps each other out.

“You see that everyone was putting their body on the line to get the three points, so when he was telling me that it was a no-brainer really, I just wanted to get down here as soon as possible and play games!”

Justin has since established himself in the Foxes first-team, but he’s never forgotten his roots.

Last term he got the chance to say farewell to Luton supporters when he scored against them on his debut in a Leicester Carabao Cup victory at Kenilworth Road, which saw the rare sight of home fans giving an opposition player a standing ovation.

Dewsbury-Hall said: “He’s a great player, he has come in and showed everyone that he has the quality to play in the Premier League.

“It’s a tough thing to come straight from League One into the Premier League and he’s taken it in his stride and hopefully he can continue that at Leicester.”
