Luton boss Jack Wilshere has explained what was said when he went into the away end to talk to “frustrated” Hatters fans after last night’s last-gasp 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient.

Gideon Kodua, scored yet another late, late goal to pinch a point for Town, though some fans thought it papered over the cracks of a poor performance.

Luton hogged two thirds of the possession but, against an O’s team that have conceded the second highest amount of goals in League One, failed to register a shot on target until Kodua’s 96th minute leveller.

That was coupled with below par individual performances, most notably from captain Kal Naismith, whose mistake led to Theo Archibald’s opener, among a series of misplaced passes. The skipper appeared to acknowledge his mistakes with an apologetic gesture to Hatters supporters as he was substituted.

After the game, Wilshere went to talk with some of the travelling Town faithful and he told #LTFC+: “Yeah, they were frustrated and I want to hear their frustrations. I want to be part of it. We need them. We need them to be with us. They’re part of us.

“I never really understood why people don’t talk to fans in those moments when they’re angry. Let’s see what they’re angry about.

“I understand their frustration. And one thing I’ll guarantee all of the fans, that if they came to the training ground, they saw how hard the players are working, how much effort they they’re putting in, how much they care, how disappointed they are in the dressing room.

“And of course, I still understand it. And I just wanted to hear their opinion. I said to them, “Yeah, we’re trying. We’re trying. We’ll get better. We’ll keep working.”

“I thought the fans were outstanding tonight. And we’re going to need that. They clapped us off at the end, which isn’t always easy after a bad performance but, yeah, we’re going to need them and they were outstanding.”
