Luton Town will be without Isaiah Jones for the start of the League One campaign after manager Matt Bloomfield confirmed the winger has suffered a stress fracture in his back.
Jones, who impressed at the tail end of last season and was tipped to be a key figure for the Hatters this term, is now expected to miss “a couple of months” after the issue was picked up in pre-season.
Bloomfield revealed: “Izzy played at Boreham Wood, but unfortunately he’s been suffering with a back injury that we found out was a stress fracture in his back.
“So he’s going to be missing for a couple of months. We’re not entirely sure, with load-related injuries it’s probably due to the increases from where he was at Middlesbrough, coming in and playing a lot of football for us in the second half of last season.”

The Luton boss explained that Jones had not experienced any problems during the off-season, but pain began to build again once preparations for the new campaign resumed.
“He didn’t have any pain over the summer,” Bloomfield said, adding: “but coming back in pre-season, that pain was starting to grow. We did scans and we found out that he’s going to be out for a couple of months, which is obviously a blow to us because he was fantastic in the last couple of months of last season.”
Jones’ pace, direct running and creativity are seen as a major asset heading into the new season, so while his absence will leave a hole in their attacking options, Luton remain active in the transfer window as they prepare for a demanding League One campaign with a friendly trip to Gillingham tomorrow.
