Glen Rea’s won’t return to Woking on loan after his one month spell came to an end at the weekend, but he won’t be available for Luton’s crunch clash with Wigan this Saturday, boss Graeme Jones has said.
The midfielder, who captained the side last term until he suffered a knee injury a year ago, was sent out on loan to the National League outfit in a bid to get up to speed with match action.
Rea made seven appearances for The Cards, but Jones, who also revealed that Izzy Brown will be missing for 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, said: “I spoke to Glen on Monday. I didn’t want to extend his loan. He’s played seven games, not full games, but he’s played seven game for Woking now.
“He’s back amongst the group but he’s had a bit of an issue this week so he won’t be involved at the weekend.”
Martin Cranie will be monitored as late as possible before Jones selects his squad for the visit of his former side Wigan at the weekend.
The defender, signed in the summer on a free from Sheffield United, has missed the last three Championship games after limping off during the 3-0 defeat at Reading before the international break last month.
“He’s not far away,” said Jones, adding: “We’ll have a late decision to make on Martin. He’s been back on the grass, which is a big help. We’ll need his experience around the group, so that’s a bonus.”
However, fellow defender Brendan Galloway will not feature again this season after he was stretchered off during the 7-0 thumping Town took at Brentford on Saturday.
It was the former Everton and MK Dons man’s first appearance since September – and only fifth since signing for Luton in the summer – but he lasted only 25 minutes after being introduced at half time, when he ruptured his patella tendon.
Asked Galloway was feeling after yet another setback, Jones said: “Really low. He had a massive operation yesterday. Open surgery, so we don’t know how long he’s going to be out for. It’s a big, big injury, that.”
