Luton fans won’t see the best of Callum McManaman until after the September international break, when boss Graeme Jones is planning to ‘get some real work’ into the winger.
The former Wigan flyer has had a minor injury, missing the last two Championship clashes, but he made a late appearance off the bench in Tuesday night’s 3-0 Carabao Cup second round win at Cardiff City.
Boss Jones has previously admitted that McManaman takes longer than most players to get fully fit and, despite more delays because of his injury, the Hatters manager is planning to get him up to speed when there’s a weekend’s break from match action.
Jones said: “Callum has lost ten days. He hasn’t really trained with the group, but he put himself forward to be involved (against Cardiff). Again, he’s contributed.
“I know Callum really, really well and I’ll know when he hits his peak. The international break will be good for Callum to get some real work into him.
“Specific physical, technical work into him and by the time we come out of that international break he’ll be in a stronger position that he is today.
