‘I’ve loved my time here,’ but Trollope has ‘no idea’ on Luton future after Edwards’ exit

Paul Trollope is unsure about what his future holds after the departure of Luton boss Rob Edwards.

As one of the former manager’s two assistants, he and Richie Kyle, joined by Mick Harford, took charge of the team for the 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest.

With Town not wanting to waste time in finding Edwards’ successor, Trollope does not know what, if any, his involvement will be from here on in.

“No idea,” he said when asked about his future, adding: “Our remit was the two days training and take the game today, which we’ve done. It’s been a long three days, if I’m totally honest.

“Just massive mixed emotions and the adrenaline of the game and pride in the performance, disappointed in losing, and that’s not even going into the two days previous. So, I’ll have a day off tomorrow and have a breather.”

Trollope was recruited by Edwards in November 2022 and was part of the staff that secure Town’s first-ever promotion to the Premier League.

He told the BBC: “I’ve loved my time here. I loved working with Rob. It’s a special place, it’s a special club, it’s a unique club, and one that I’ve found a big connection to. So we’ll see what happens.”

If the cup clash was Trollope’s last time in a Luton dugout, it was one which saw the Hatters continue their losing run on the road.

But against high-flying Premier League opposition, defeat was not much of a surprise, though he pointed to some positives that can help the Hatters whoever the next manager is.

He said: “Life goes on and football moves on really quickly. And it’s what Rob would have wanted and what obviously the club wanted.

“There was a lot of emotion on Thursday, but you could see yesterday (Friday) morning, in the preparation we did and the training we did, that there was a real focus.

“We’ve got some people to prove wrong and this football club’s built in fighting adversity and the spirit and togetherness, and I think we showed that today.”
