An additional easyJet maintenance hangar is to be opened at Luton Airport in a boost for jobs at the airport.

The expansion of the airline’s maintenance facilities, which are due to begin operating in 2026, will create over 30 new engineering and maintenance jobs in Luton.

The new facility is set to become home to an Engineering and Maintenance training campus, complete with custom-built training facilities and workshops, and will facilitate up to 40 additional apprentices each year. The additional training facility further expands easyJet’s existing longstanding apprenticeship scheme

The hangar will be home to more than 130 easyJet employees, responsible for the management and oversight of easyJet’s aircraft maintenance activities and join the airline’s existing engineering hangar facilities at Luton, Gatwick and Liverpool.

It will provide more dedicated and enhanced engineering and maintenance capacity to support easyJet’s fleet of over 355 aircraft, 190 of which are UK registered. This summer the airline’s UK fleet will grow by seven additional aircraft in what will be the airline’s biggest ever UK summer season.

The additional engineering bay will support easyJet in maintaining its industry leading operational performance, as well as maximising efficiencies and enhancing operational productivity.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the new facility will further enhance operational and costs efficiency for the airline by bringing more of its engineering and maintenance functions in-house.

Brendan McConnellogue, easyJet’s Director of Engineering and Maintenance, said: “Opening another hangar facility in Luton will play a critical role in supporting our continued growth in the UK and in delivering an industry leading operational performance as we continue to welcome more modern, fuel-efficient aircraft into our fleet.

“The creation of these additional roles gives more engineers the opportunity to join our great team at Luton. Not only are we committed to investing in our operations to continue providing great service for our customers, but we’re equally as committed to investing in skills.

“As well as the creation of many skilled job opportunities, we are delighted that this new hangar is enabling us to launch our easyJet apprenticeship training campus, offering a new centre of engineering and maintenance excellence for even more aspiring engineers to launch their careers with us.”
