Graeme Jones believes that the same ‘level of performance’ shown in Luton’s Boxing Day draw with Fulham will be enough to take points from this afternoon’s trip to to Bristol City.
The Hatters were a minute away from victory but conceded in the 94th minute, yet the manager was enthused by the way his side took the lead three times against one of the Championship’s promotion favourites.
Today, Town travel to face a Bristol side who they have already beaten 3-0 at Kenilworth and who have lost their last two games at Ashton Gate.
But Luton are now in the relegation zone after that 3-3 draw with Fulham, as Stoke beat Sheffield Wednesday to leapfrog them.
Having seen his men compete with the Cottagers, Jones said: “I love where we are.
“You’ve got players, staff, board of directors and supporters all pulling in the same direction, every single one of us, and that’s how you get out of this situation.
“All I’ve asked the boys to do is take ownership of the same level of performance every time we play and we’ve got to go and do the same thing at Bristol City.
“If we get that level of performance again, we’re going to get points, that’s what’s reassuring to me.”
Town haven’t taken anything from their last seven away days, conceding 22 goals in the process and scoring just four and so their form on the road needs to dramatically improve.
Jones said: “Every game is an opportunity to win points. I want to be taking positive results from every season. That’s the plan, that’s what I’ve said to the players and it started (against Fulham) in the second half of the season.
Kazenga LuaLua will be hoping to start for the second time in succession, after a starring performance on Boxing Day, but he’s not anticipating Luton will have it as comfortably as when they battled Bristol back in October.
“At their home it’s normal that you have a home advantage,” he said, adding: “We’ve got to keep the same performance that we played (against Fulham), it’s not going to be easy but if you go to any stadium you want to win.”
