Graeme Jones says the last bit missing from Luton performances is a ruthless streak in front of goal but he knows Town need to find a first Championship win and quickly.
Last night’s 1-0 reverse at Sheffield Wednesday was the Hatters’ third on the spin, leaving them in the relegation zone with just one point from their opening game of the campaign.
At Hillsborough, his men dominated The Owls in an impressive first half, but failed to find the breakthrough before a second period that started with conceding the only goal of the game and ended with two glorious chances that Harry Cornick and Luke Bolton failed to take.
“I don’t know what the stats were, on target and off target, but we had more shots than Sheffield Wednesday, it’s just the next level again is to put the ball in the back of the net, cut people’s throats and be ruthless,” said Jones.
“That’s the last little bit missing now. We’re doing every so well in every single area, but it’ll come, I’ve no doubt. We’ve grown every single game, it’s just a step that we’re taking and once we get it we’ll be up and running.
“There’s a moment where you have to get results, I’m not running away from that. I’m proud to represent Luton Town Football Club and I feel a huge responsibility. There comes a point where you have to win football matches and it’s quickly arriving.”
Despite a positive first half for a second game in a row, Jones admitted: “I’d be happier if we were a goal or two up, and we weren’t.
“I think you need to understand that Luton Town is coming to Hillsborough with this massive stadium, massive crowd and handled the occasion, were competitive in the occasion and wasn’t mentally phased by it.
“It’s happened a little bit at Cardiff and we’ve had a lot of big clubs and we’ve grown in every game.
“Even today we grew, we got better. It was down to one action, to six minutes or 60 minutes and I believe that win is just around the corner.”
