Izzy Brown will be assessed today as to whether he can play a part in Luton’s Championship clash at home to West Bromwich Albion tomorrow.

The Chelsea forward, who signed on a season long loan just before the transfer window shut last week, dazzled in his debut in midweek against Ipswich.

The 22-year-old set up defender Lloyd Jones for the opener in the 3-1 Carabao Cup first round victory – an assist that Quest TV tweeted was Messi-esque – and was the standout player for 66 minutes until he was substituted.

It was his first start since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while on loan at Premier League Brighton in January 2018, and he was withdrawn with tight calves.

Asked about the chances of picking him for the Albion game, boss Graeme Jones yesterday said: “He can play for an hour but he’s on second day recovering today so difficult to be exact how he feels, as he is a little bit stiff.

“That’s normal for anybody at played on Tuesday night, so will see how they come in tomorrow and make some decisions from there.”

Speaking after his debut on Tuesday, Brown said: “I wouldn’t say I’m 100 per cent because my calves were gone on about 60 minutes.

“But other than that, fitness-wise I’m in a good shape.

“I just need to get more matches under my belt and I’ll be fine.”

However, Luke Bolton, who also arrived at Kenilworth Road on transfer deadline day, is a doubt for the weekend, having injured his calf against Ipswich.

Jones said: “He didn’t train today (Thursday( so we are hoping to get him back tomorrow (Friday).

“We will just be taking stock of the whole group tomorrow. That’s the next full session where we’ve got everybody together.”

Despite making 11 changes for the cup game on Tuesday, striker Danny Hylton didn’t feature in the squad.

Jones said: “Danny just wasn’t ready, physically. He trained out there, he covered maybe seven kilometres and he’s getting up to speed.

Again, we’re just constantly assessing where we are with him, but we’ve got a fully fit squad to choose from.”
