Graeme Jones will be sweating on the hamstring injury to Izzy Brown after admitting that the Chelsea loan ace must play if Luton are to avoid relegation.
The forward hobbled out of today’s 2-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest around the half hour mark, having been Town’s chief creator.
Before the Championship clash, Brown had the most assists in the division and after his departure they rarely looked like turning their 70 per cent possession into goals.
It saw the Hatters slip to fourth from bottom and Jones will now have to hope his injury is not serious, with a must-not-lose trip to fellow strugglers Reading next week.
Tthe importance of Brown’s continued presence in the Hatters line-up was laid bare by the manager, who said: “Izzy’s our most creative player and he has to play if we’re going to stay in the league. He has to play, it’s as simple as that.
“He’s got a problem with his hamstring. He’s had huge demands. Everybody talks about changing teams last week because of the three games last week. I didn’t change him because he’s so important, then you get this.
“Remember, when you play three games in a week it’s about being able to repeat that physical level, then recover and go again. He’s in that period where he hasn’t played football for two years. He’s played a lot of games that have maybe caught up with him.”
Opinion: Izzy Brown, defend? Why on earth sacrifice Luton’s most creative player for that?
