Nathan Jones accepts it’s a “tall order” for Luton to pull off a great escape but is aiming to still be in the survival mix come the final day of the season.
Town travel to Huddersfield tomorrow, knowing they need at least three wins from their final four matches, to stand a chance of preserving their Championship status.
A late blow to only draw against relegation rivals Barnsley on Tuesday means Luton are currently propping up the division and effectively six points from safety due to the worst goal difference in the league.
Victory at Huddersfield is therefore vital as they are only six points above the Hatters and also fighting for their lives.
“It is going to be a tall order, but we just need to win games,” said Jones, adding: “We’ve not been in bad form, apart from the (5-0) Reading result which is understandable.
“And then, if we’d have held on the other night (against Barnsley), we’d be in a really positive position, we really would. That goal tarnished a few things, but we’ve got to go again.
“We’ve got four massive games and what we want to do is make sure we’re in it on the final day. If we are, who knows what can happen.
“It’s obviously been a tall order from the restart with having to peg back seven points, but we’re well up for the fight and we’ve got a group that are hungry and want to stay in this division.”
The Hatters still also have to travel to Hull – another relegation rival who now also sit in the bottom three, four points above Town – but Jones says he can’t look beyond Huddersfield.
“What we’ve got to try and do is get to 44 points tomorrow night. If we can get to 44 points, then there’s plenty to play for,” he said.
“There’s lots that could happen this season, you’ve just got to keep giving yourself an opportunity.
“If we can take it to the last game and we’re right in the mix, then you never know because there’s hunger in the group and that’s what we like about it.”
