Graeme Jones is not worried that Luton slipped into the Championship relegation zone after a 3-3 draw with Fulham yesterday, believing a newfound lack of respect for opponents can yield more positive results.
It needed an injury time Bobby Decordova-Reid strike for Fulham to turn three Town points into just one after the Hatters had taken the lead on three separate occasions.
Elsewhere at Stoke, the Potters left it even later with two goals to beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 and leapfrog Luton be virtue of goal difference.
But Jones believes the performance was the key to improving their standing.
“It’s not about the league, it’s about where we finish,” said the manager, adding: “We’re in a 22-game season now and it’s about accumulating enough points. We’re on 21 and last season, 40 was enough with a goal difference to keep you in the league.
“So, it’s about accumulating enough points to stay in this league by hook or by crook. If there’s seven games left, we can still win 21 points.
“We’ve done the hard yards in terms of preparing the team, different shapes, different formations and different teams we’ve been playing against.
“I love the lack of respect for Fulham. With the greatest of respect to that Fulham Football Club and Scott (Parker), they are a really, really good club. Scott’s got Stuart Gray and they’re really good people, but I loved how we imposed ourselves on the game, physically, technically and tactically, so it’s only a positive day for me.”
