Britpop-inspired rockers JW Paris have released new single ‘You’ve Got Me’, exposing toxic personal relationships, the grip of algorithms and unraveling the seductive hold of social media.
The track has existed in the JW Paris archives since day one, when Luton frontmen Aaron Forde (bass/vocals) and Danny Collins (guitar/vocoals) were forming their sound in a local 24-hour storage lock-up, before being kicked out.
They never felt ready to release the song until now, but the recruitment of original Babyshambles drummer Gemma Clarke has seen them develop a darker and heavier sound.
Recorded at Foel Studios (The Fall, The Stranglers, Klaxons) – the UK’s second oldest residential recording studios and released on Blaggers Records, fronted by Lutonian Alex Forde – ‘You’ve Got Me’ takes us into the darker months of the year with unhinged guitars, haunting vocals and a breakdown that will entrap you into its melodic hook.
With lyrics like, “Can you sit inside the silence, reflecting on the shame,” the song paints a vivid picture of introspection, urging us to confront the uncomfortable truths that we’ve ignored. It delves into the paradox of feeling unwanted and pushing for constant attention.
Embedded within the lyrics, “All the dreams that hide inside you, are they the ones that scream my name,” is the core of breaking free.
The band say, “We all experience the struggle of untangling from social media, friendships and discovering who we are amongst external influences.
“Ultimately, “You’ve Got Me” is a call to action, inviting listeners to recognise their entanglements and unshackle themselves.
“With each note, the song underscores the power of resilience and the courage to emerge from the shadows of toxicity.
“It’s a reminder that true liberation comes with difficult choices.”
JW Paris’s previous singles have been featured on nationwide radio shows such as Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy (Radio X), Frankie (Amazing Radio UK & USA) Frank Skinner (Absolutely Radio) and made it onto the Radio X playlist.
The trio headlined the inaugural Summer Assembly all-day festival at The Castle in Luton, organised by the Vandalism Begins at Home music collective and they’ll be playing at The Water Rats in London’s Kings Cross on November 24.
