Graeme Jones has called on the 1,700 Luton fans travelling to Nottingham Forest tomorrow to ‘keep faith’ that his Championship basement boys can end a run of 10 away days without victory.
The Hatters will descend on the City Ground with just one point in their last seven games, which has seen them fall to the foot of the league.
Last time out Town lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham City, a defeat which saw Jones booed off the pitch by supporters. Asked what message he would give the fans ahead of tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off live on Sky, the manager said: “Keep faith. Football turns around overnight. I can assure you, the staff and the players are giving everything they’ve got.
“When you give everything you’ve got, hopefully you’ll get rewarded. Just hopefully it’ll come on Sunday.”
Despite their dismal run of form, Luton are still only four points from safety, albeit with the worst goal difference in the division, but Jones said: “I don’t look at it. I know what it is, but I don’t look at it.
“We’ve got to control our own destiny by starting to pick up positive results by getting everybody fit. That’s the stage of the season we are. That guarantees nothing, but on a human level there’s a point where, from a player point of view, we’ve got to turn this around.
“We’ve had a good week of work, a good week of communication and hopefully that’ll start on Sunday.
“You build consistency and you build form by taking positive results from games. I can remember speaking about this around about the Swansea period.
“Concentrating and getting something from every game. You want draws and wins at this stage because we need a run of consistency.
“It’s what I’ve said to the players, but actions speak louder than words. There’s a point where we have to put that into practice and the next opportunity is Nottingham Forest on Sunday.”
