KILL, THE ICON! return with their second single, with a track that explores the legacy of celebrated chef, author and cultural documentarian, the late Anthony Bourdain.
Fronted by a Luton doctor who successfully took the UK government to court over their lack of protection of his fellow healthcare workers during the onset of the pandemic, frontman Nishant Joshi has made his mark on the world, much like the track’s namesake.
In his life, Bordain’s work focused on the exploration of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition, but he committed suicide in 2018 while working on an episode of his famed food and travel Netflix series, ‘Parts Unknown’, in France.
Bassist and vocalist Joshi spent time revisiting the series during last year’s coronavirus lockdown, and mulled over how surreal it felt that a man who seemingly had it all and made such a global impact through his work could truly be gone.
The single acts as a tribute to Bourdain and the legacy he left on the greater creative community.
‘Bourdain’ is the follow-up release to November’s critically acclaimed debut single ‘Buddhist Monk’. That track, which Joshi discussed with The Lutonian, told the story of the self-immolation of Thich Quang Duc, who sacrificed himself in protest of the persecution of his fellow Buddhists in 1963 Vietnam.
Much like its predecessor, ‘Bourdain’ musically delivers snarl, thrash, grit, and a flair for storytelling through sound – crafting an unignorable elixir of thoughtfulness and raw energy.
But it continues to set out KILL, THE ICON! – who will play Bedford Esquires on Thursday (February 10) – as change-makers creating songs about change-makers.
You can pre-save ‘Bordain’ ahead of its release on all streaming platforms from February 11.
