Peter Kioso has joined Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season, with the Luton defender saying he wants to keep challenging himself.

The 21-year-old was recalled from his loan spell with League Two Bolton Wanderers earlier this month, where he made 16 appearances, and he moves up to League One.

“I’m happy to finally get the deal done,” Kioso told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo. “For me, a lot of it was about the conversation I had with the gaffer.

“He spoke about how much he wanted me to come in and I could see how genuine the gaffer was and how much he wanted to help my progression as a player.

“That’s important for me and I just felt Northampton was the right place to continue that progression.”

Kioso had been earning high praise while at Bolton and the Trotters had hoped to get him back.

But Kioso, who was at Dunstable Town before the Hatters signed him from non-league Hartlepool, said: “I’m only 21 and people say I have a long way to go in my career but every year is important to me.

“I don’t want to be at a standstill at any point of my career. I feel like I need to keep moving forward and keep challenging myself.

“I challenged myself in League Two and played for a great club in Bolton and I felt my performances were good, but this is the next step in my career and the next challenge and I want to show people I can do what I did in League Two in League One.

“I wanted to test myself again. There’s no point getting into football if you’re not going to challenge yourself every step of the way.

“I could have stayed in my comfort zone and I could have gone back to League Two and finished the season there, but there was an option for me to come to League One and play for Northampton, which is a great club with good players and a good manager.

“I couldn’t turn down that opportunity. I need to challenge myself again and tackle it head on.”

Northampton manager Keith Curle told the club’s website: “Peter is a player we have been tracking for some time and have been very impressed by.

“He was on our radar before he went out to Bolton, we monitored his performances there, he did very well for Bolton and has shown excellent progression in his career.

“He has both power and pace, he is a good athlete and he can play in any role down the right hand side as a wing back or a full back.

“He is a threat going forward, he has good defensive qualities too and he will add to our squad.”
