New Luton signing Lasse Nordås today celebrates his 23rd birthday and his first week as a Hatter since joining from Tromsø on transfer deadline day, but what can Hatters fans expect the striker? Scandanavian football pundit and co-host of the Nordic Football Podcast, Steve Wyss, has given his view of Town’s newest player.

Speaking on the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust podcast, Wyss offered a balanced assessment of the frontman, describing him as a player with significant potential but one who may require development to thrive in the Championship.

“I think he’s better on the eye than he is in the metrics book,” Wyss admitted of the forward who scored 9 goals in 28 Norwegian top-flight appearances in their campaign that concluded in December.

Wyss highlighted Nordås’ strengths in the air and his ability to hold up play, comparing him to current Luton striker Elijah Adebayo, saying: “He’s nearly two meters tall and predominantly left-footed, making him a classic target forward. He can also play wide on the left as an unconventional winger.”

However, he noted a key area for improvement, which Hatters fans may find similar to the existing frontline players Nordås will join, adding: “He has a knack, sadly, of missing chances and underachieving his xG [expected goals stats]. That’s an area he’ll need to develop.”

Despite those concerns, Wyss emphasised Nordås’s potential for growth, saying: “I think there is a decent ceiling if you can get it out of him.”

The first opportunity for Town fans to see Nordås in action would be for their trip to promotion-chasing Sunderland on Wednesday, though it remains to be seen how involved the Norwegian will be as his last competitive game was on the first of December, as the Norwegian Tippeligaen starts and ends before the English season.

But the forward’s experience in Tromsø, inside the Arctic Circle, should make him a resilient addition to Luton Town.

“He’s not going to be a softie,” Wyss quipped. “He’s had a complicated background but made something of himself. You’ve got to give him credit for that.”

But fans eager to see how Nordås adapts to life in the Championship and Luton manager Matt Bloomfield’s system may need to be patient, with Wyss warning: “He’ll take some physical preparation.”
