Elliot Lee is hoping Luton can pick up next season where they left off after penning a new contract to stay at Kenilworth Road.

Manager Nathan Jones revived the attacker’s Town career after he was frozen out under previous boss Graeme Jones, making just eight appearances and then not getting a look in after January.

The Welshman returned in May and Lee, 25, who agreed to stay an play though his contract expired last month, went on to feature in seven of the nine games after the restart, scoring in a 2-0 away win at fellow strugglers Huddersfield.

He’d previously admitted he thought his Hatters career was over under the previous boss, but after penning his new deal, following Danny Hylton and Luke Berry, he said: “Its great and I’m happy to get it over the line. It’s always what I wanted.

“How last season ended was great for the club, staying up and the manager coming back, which was great for me and for the lads. It’s nice to get it all sorted and I’m looking forward to the next few years.”

He added: “I just loved being back involved and back working under the gaffer again and with the boys. I’m looking forward to next season now when hopefully we can pick up where we left off and build on what we’ve done.”

A 3-2 victory at home to Blackburn Rovers secured Luton’s Championship status, having been effectively seven points adrift when Coronavirus struck.

But Town took 16 points from the remaining 27 and left their only home victory in that sequence until last when they knew three points would lift them out of the bottom three for the first time since Boxing Day.

“The only thing we were missing was the fans,” he told the club’s website, adding: “I stayed at Harry Cornick’s house after that game and we woke up the following morning and were talking about how we’ve both been here for three years and we’ve had a promotion, one championship winning year and a last day survival. We looked at each other and said ‘some players don’t go through that in their whole career, and we’ve had that every year at Luton’.

“We both thought it was a great decision to join this club considering we’ve had those three years, and hopefully there’s many more great memories to come.”
