Luton is about to be treated to another People Power Passion event, this time with the town’s children in mind.
The Children’s Peace Party will see families descend on Wardown Park in celebration of the day, following the Peace Day riots 100 years ago, when children enjoyed games and activities at Luton Hoo.
The event has been devised by Youngsook Choi and Kirsti Davies from Rara Collective, with children from Chantry Primary Academy and Whitefield Primary Academy.
A huge forest, which was created by school children in workshops over the summer, will form an outdoor theatre stage with four shows on offer; TaleShakers by Next Generation Youth Theatre, A Queen’s Peace Party by Whitefield Primary Academy students, Riki Cycle by Aaran Spendelow and Baby Bollywood by Dusna’s Dance Academy.
TaleShakers is an immersive story-telling experience and A Queen’s Peace Party is an interactive show, inviting the audience to work together and have fun. Riki Cycle is an entertaining puppetry show about recycling and Baby Bollywood will teach easy to follow steps to catchy Bollywood music.
Children will be able to design and make their own tote bag in the printing studio, juggle and spin in the peace day riots circus and create arts and crafts with Flamingo arts, as well as plenty of other activities.
Laura Church, portfolio holder for Place and Infrastructure at Luton Council said: “The People Power Passion events have been amazing and it’s been just fantastic to see so many people turn up to experience the amazing talent Luton has to offer.
“After the huge spectacular in July and August’s powerful theatre performance by our young people, I’m really looking forward to seeing our children take centre stage and enjoy the many activities on offer. This is the penultimate event in what has been a very successful People Power Passion programme, and I’d like to encourage as many families to attend as possible.”
The Children’s Peace Party takes place in Wardown Park from 11am to 6pm on Saturday 14 September. Some refreshments will be on offer, but people are invited to bring picnics. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The final People Power Passion event, a virtual reality game exploring a future version of Luton called Lutopia, will be held on Saturday 12 October 2019 – 12 noon – 8pm in Luton Town Centre.
