Kazenga LuaLua admits that it has not been easy being a bit-part player for Luton this term, but hopes his performance in the 3-3 Boxing Day draw with Fulham will mean more starts – beginning at Bristol today.
The winger started the scoring in the Christmas clash, benefiting from a high-press that Town had been working on for two days prior, and his was a man of the match display, despite being substituted on 75 minutes.
It was only the 29-year-old’s second appearance in seven games, while he’s only completed 90 minutes three times this term, among just 16 Championship outings.
“It’s not been easy for me, but we have a strong squad,” LuaLua said, adding: “Like the gaffer said, when you get a chance you’ve got to take it. I would like to think I did take my chance.
“I’ve got to keep going. It’s not just that I played well and that’s it, I need to keep playing well every single time I get a chance.”
His was a standout performance reminiscent of his stellar first campaign with Luton, last term, where he became a firm fan favourite.
LuaLua said of the Hatters faithful: “They’ve been unbelievable. Even when I came here last season, they’ve been positive with everybody. They’re always behind us, so me and the boys in the changing room we just want to thank them for what they’ve done this season.
“It’s important for us because we need them from now until the end of the season.
“It’s a busy time in the year and you want to stay with your family but they’re coming to support us. We’re trying to get a result for them.
“We like it because they’re support us all the time. We can’t thank them enough. We want them to continue supporting us and good things will come.”
