West Brom’s half time substitute Grady Diangana scored a six-minute brace immediately after his introduction to turn the tables on Town to end a 17-month, 28-game unbeaten league streak at Kenilworth Road.
The Hatters had been excellent in the first period with Harry Cornick’s rocket header giving them a lead in a first half where played well.
Jacob Butterfield looked classy in the centre of the park and Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu had his best half of the campaign so far, while Callum McManaman proved a problem to the visitors down the left flank.
Simon Sluga was only called into action to palm away a Jake Livermore belter as Town defended resolutely and broke out from the back with intent.
But what would’ve been a positive midway interval, quickly turned sour wen, with one of his first touches, Diangana arrowed into the bottom corner from long range and then reacted with a killer instinct to convert a Filipino Krovinovic shot that deflected off Sonny Bradley’s heel and right into his path.
The introductions of Izzy Brown and Kazenga LuaLua wrestled back some of the Baggies’ momentum, but they couldn’t force a leveller. In fact, it could’ve got worse, on the scoreboard at least, but West Brom’s £4million man Charlie Austin hit the post.
By then Albion were managing the game to its conclusion with Luton forced to rue a second successive Championship contest where they’d barely put a foot wrong but had the game taken away from them in the blink of an eye.
