Substitute Jacob Brown broke his Premier League duck to hand Luton Town their first home win in the division in a manic finale against Crystal Palace that will live long in the memory.

One hundred and three agonising minutes the Hatters faithful had to endure to celebrate a milestone victory that lifted the Hatters four points clear of the drop zone.

Teden Mengi would’ve thought that his first senior goal would’ve claimed the points when he fired in from a corner on 72 minutes and then survived a VAR check, which had earlier ruled out an Odsonne Edouard opener for a clear handball.

But in a carbon copy of Luton’s defeat to Burnley, the lead lasted a matter of seconds before Michael Olise scored a stunning equaliser, curling into the top corner to deny the excellent Thomas Kaminski his first clean sheet of the campaign.

But this time the hosts rallied and Chiedozie Ogbene registered a sensational assist for Brown, full of desire, to slide in.

In years gone by, that would have left Luton with seven minutes to see out the game. But there was disbelief when 12 minutes were added on.

That sparked a nonstop bombardment of a balls into Town’s box but Tom Lockyer, Gabriel Osho and most definitely, Mengi headed and hacked away everything.

Well, almost everything as the woodwork came to the rescue to deny Jefferson Lerma deep into injury time.

But when the whistle came Town players flopped to the floor in exhaustion and relief, while others ran to the delirious Kenilworth Road end to celebrate a win that had been a long time coming.
