Super sub Luke Berry left it late to rescue a deserved point for Luton Town as they came from two behind to dampen the frustration of a fine performance marred by howlers from the officials and Ethan Horvath.

Asked if he was frustrated, the Hatters boss said: “Very. I’ll be honest. I’m pleased with the lads. We won on Saturday, but there was a bad decision in that game where we should’ve been playing against ten men.
“Then, tonight, there’s two big decisions, massive decisions that have gone against us. The penalty and an offside goal.
“I want to be on the right end of some of these decisions. Again, credit to the lad because they knew that at the time. Clicker (Clark) knew it was a penalty but they kept going, they stayed focused. The lads knew it was offside at the time, so it’s a big credit to be able to keep their heads and stay in the game.”
That was important because the Lions had defended manfully, but offered almost nothing in attack, so for Luton to find themselves with a two-goal disadvantage, there was a very real sense of a second smash-and-grab on the spin at Kenilworth Road.
But Elijah Adebayo halved the deficit with an excellent improvised finished after Cody Drameh had seen George Long push his shot onto the bar, thought not far enough from the Hatters striker.
Edwards said: “It was a cracking atmosphere, but even at 2-0 down the fans could see what we are trying to do. They try, they give everything and they were still with us. Getting one back, Eli’s goal was important at that time just to keep that belief and keep the atmosphere there.”

“Brilliant,” said Edwards of the point snatching strike, adding: “That’s what he does. You’ve got to get goals on the pitch. Unfortunately, Gabe (Osho) was just feeling his knee. We could’ve brought Sonny (Bradley) on and just kept the shape the same, but we needed to take that gamble and get more goals on. Fortunately for us, Bez did what he does really well.”
It was Berry’s first goal under Edwards, but it maintained an impressive stat, which is that when the midfielder scores, Luton don’t lose. A point here was the least they deserved.

And give Berry a start too. That man proved last night what surely everyone knows? He’s the most natural goal threat we have in midfield. We might need Pelly or Marvelous at centre back so that would free up a spot.
And then please attack with pace and intent more often on Saturday. Possession for the sake isn’t working. Don’t give teams the chance to have 10 men behind the ball and there will be more space. Shoot sometimes and you might score.
All that moan said, good point in the end given how we shot ourselves in the foot so much.

i’m with you. i can’t see any of the loan players signing permanently (they’ll have to take big pay cuts – especially nakamba). so if campbell (and then fred, and then shea) all decide to move on, we’ve lost 6 players so have more disruption again next season. but campbell especially has had a rough deal. shea needed to be allowed to recover. and fred needs to get himself reliably fit.
