Luton add ex Liverpool, Everton and Crystal Palace coach to backroom staff

Luton manager Graeme Jones has added former Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Everton and Wales coach Ryland Morgans to his backroom staff.

The 42-year-old joins as technical coach and completes Jones’ backroom staff.

Morgans is a UEFA Pro Licence holder and was part of the Wales staff as they got to the semi-finals of Euro 2016. He has also worked for Swansea and Cardiff City and is currently assistant manager of the Ivory Coast national team, alongside Ibrahim Kamara, which is a role he’ll continue to perform while at Luton.

Jones said: “Ryland has a fantastic CV, an elite CV, working at the top level of the game. He was with Brendan Rogers at Swansea and Liverpool as head of performance, then he was with Sam Allardyce at Crystal Palace and Everton as performance director, but with technical and tactical responsibilities.

“I felt that we needed to increase the coaching staff if we were going to affect units and affect individuals.

“Ryland is someone whose career I’ve followed, certainly from competing with the teams that he’s been involved in. He’s probably best known for his period as head of performance with the Wales national team that got to the Euro 2016 semi-final, so we are talking about a guy with a really, really strong CV, someone who is used to elite level coaching.

“I’ve been speaking to him for a while now, and I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Morgans told the club’s official website: “I’ve always coached fitness and performance along with the tactical and technical side of football, so I’m flexible to whatever Graeme, the rest of the staff and players need from me.

“I’m really looking forward to working at a club that has been on the up for so long, and has started the Championship season really well.

“I’ve been watching closely while in talks with Graeme and I’ve been excited by what I’ve seen, even more so now I’m here and have been able to work with those players out on the grass.”
