Luton blaze photos released to show shut doors can save lives in a fire

The fire service is reminding residents of the importance of closing doors in your home following the release of dramatic pictures following a fire in Luton.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) praised the residents of a house in the town for shutting the doors in their home, which resulted in a house fire being contained.

Doors are crucial for preventing the spread of fire and smoke around a building, limiting damage and even preventing people suffering smoke inhalation.

Lee Slipanczewski, Group Commander, said: “This incident has shown perfectly how important it is to keep doors closed to prevent fire from spreading. Without them fire and smoke could have spread even further, putting lives in danger and causing significantly more damage.”

All residents are encouraged to shut doors in their house – especially before going to bed – and to always have a working smoke alarm on every floor, which is tested regularly.
